Gemini Revolutionises Secondary Containment Through a combination of imaginative design, engineering expertise and skilled manufacturing, Franklin Fueling Systems has developed the next generation secondary containment system that delivers optimum performance. The revolutionary Gemini system of fittings provides a whole range of valuable benefits for our customers and is set to become the gold standard in secondary containment technology. As well as simplifying the system by reducing the number of components and the overall size, it was also important to reduce costs and installation time. At the same time, the Franklin Fueling Systems engineering team were committed to achieving better reliability in both the product and the installation; plus, of course, the system had to pass the stringent tests set by international standards bodies such as UL and EN. PIPING&CONTAINMENT Advantages • A full integration of secondary components and welding capabilities, combined with the highly efficient electrofusion primary fittings, has culminated in the Gemini secondary containment system. Gemini allows Franklin Fueling Systems to provide up to 50% reduction in primary and secondary fittings. • Up to 50% reduction in fusion weld operations. • The efficiency and ease of use for the new design means that a contractors training costs can be reduced. The versatility of the new design also means that there is a possible reduction in contractor stock. • One design for ALL pipe sizes means that both site design and installer training requirements are reduced. The scalable simplicity means that training or design for one size can be applied across all size variations. • Primary system can be fully tested and inspected before secondary is welded. The simplicity and elegance of the Gemini design reduces installation time and costs, giving installers 100% confidence. • 360 ° interstitial space provided by the Gemini system means the primary pipe is totally enclosed and, equally important, independent of the secondary pipe and fittings. Making It Work Design engineers, mechanical engineers and manufacturing engineers collaborated to ensure that a final design could be developed quickly without compromise. Computer Aided Design (CAD) software, together with rapid prototyping facilities, enabled the designs to be assessed for form, fit and function. Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) software was then used to refine the design, optimising the electrical design of the fusion wire for efficient welding and adding strength to the structure of each component to ensure a 50-year design life. Gemini - The Optimum Solution The Gemini secondary containment system is simplicity itself. It covers sizes from 40mm/32mm, up to and including 125mm/110mm in 90°, 45°, in-line and tee configurations. All Gemini configurations rely on just two secondary components, while still maintaining 360° annular interstitial space. The Gemini system is fully compatible with the UPP primary electrofusion range and no other special fittings are required. What's more, the fittings have been scaled for each size in the range, so that all components can be installed in exactly the same way, regardless of whether it's a 125mm/110mm remote fill line on a forecourt or a 63mm/75mm product line under a marina pontoon. Installation Pipework is easily installed through the innovative electrofusion process which welds the system together using fittings and entry seals to provide one solid-construction system from the underground tank sump to the dispenser sump.
